"The Boxer" is the third single from The Chemical Brothers 2005 studio album ''Push the Button'', released in early July 2005 (see 2005 in music). The song features The Charlatans lead singer Tim Burgess on vocals. It is notable that it was the first single released by The Chemical Brothers not to peak within the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart. It's the second Chemical Brothers single to feature Tim Burgess following "Life is Sweet", which was released 10 years before.
In 2011, The Chemical Brothers released a previously unreleased alternate version of The Boxer entitled ''The 50/50 Mix'' in support of Good for Nothing's ''50/50 Make or Break'' campaign, a fundraising project aimed at raising money for East Africa. A video composed of visuals created by Adam Smith was also provided along with the new mix. This version of the song was first performed live in 2007, at the BBC Electric Proms in Camden. Tim Burgess appeared as a guest at the show and performed the vocals for the song.
==Music video==
The music video involves a basketball belonging to a man wreaking havoc upon a city by bouncing all over the place. It is, at several points, confined or deflated, even run over by a truck, which The Chemical Brothers are seen driving. However, the basketball continually reinflates or works itself out of tight spots. It is eventually trapped in a phone booth, swells to an enormous size, and explodes.
The video was shot in various locations in Budapest, Hungary.
